The still life is simply an exercise in seeing. It is an opportunity to work with the color relationships between light, form, and shadow; to understand the nature of translating a 3-D object onto a 2-D plane through depth and feeling. The light is simple, the shadows are simple, but the form is where the life and juice within the painting are to be found. Still life's are among my favorite studies to practice on a regular basis.
