Artist Bio
Lynlee Lyckberg is a master painter who uses dream imagery, a variety of media, and a fresh, inventive style to tap into unconscious energies moving through the collective that allow the psyche to speak its enigmatic truth through the visual image. Lynlee holds an M.F.A. in Arts and Consciousness from John F. Kennedy University, and a Ph.D. in Mythological Studies and Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She also spent time at the University of China in Hangzhou, China (2001) studying Traditional Chinese Arts and Healing. A California Native, Lynlee was born in Los Angeles, California. She spent many years in the San Francisco Bay Area with a studio in Benicia's Historic Arsenal, and currently resides in the Northern Sierra Nevada Foothill town of Nevada City. As a meditative pathway to joy, her creative work invites the viewer to interact with an inner dream world through the paintings which sustain and nourish both the maker and recipient. |
ARTIST STATEMENT
My current body of work is based upon memory and the human tendency to distort the events of the past in a continual reframing of lived experience. As a pathway to healing, our capacity to reframe events enables us to soften what was once harsh, to relinquish that which was once painful, and to move forward with gratitude for the entirety of our lived experience. All at once 'exactly' as described and fictitious, we are reminded that events in the course of a life are but a dream, not nearly as devastating or as grand as we once imagined them to be at the time.
As a reflection of the current shifting paradigm in Western culture (a shift away from the known and comfortable into the unknown), there is a journey through the liminal; a necessary moving away from the secure shore of certainty to a completely new and foreign shore, full of new and unclear possibility. In this psychic movement, the past is often lamented and romanticized, when in fact, it is purely imaginal as well, and was never as great or as awful as we remembered it to be.
My work, then, deals with the motif of the journey through time and space, where memory and dream intersect and step forward to create the image that serves as "the trace left behind from narratives told about the life lived." Dreams of home, of everyday objects and events, of revealing and concealing (and knowing which to do when), the journey is vast and mysterious, and always full of surprises~
