Mixed Media Abstracts

Abstraction is the painting form that I feel most comfortable with and have spent the vast majority of my time over the last 35 years doing. As much as I love the challenge that traditional drawing and painting requires, I will always return to abstraction as I move between the "clearly articulated," and the "messier, ineffable" places within my own being. Far from being non-objective, my work in the abstract is deeply philosophical and often moves between Eastern and Western philosophical currents. In the end, Abstraction for me is a dance with the Tao, the unknown, ever unfolding "what next" of our personal and collective human experience. Abstraction provides me with an opportunity to go more deeply into the felt, sensed inner world without having to name and limit that experience. Thus, like the wellspring from which we are born, Abstraction is a return to the ground of my very BEing.
